In the first part of A land of vine buds, Mercedes Ventosa invites the reader to an in-depth exploration of three family lines that are very representative of the entrepreneurial history of El Penedès, formed by the three smaller regions of Alt and Baix Penedès, Garraf, and part of Anoia. These families stand as a compelling testament to the entrepreneurial dynamism of Catalan society which, whether rooted in coastal or in the interior territories, found in those vibrant years the opportunity to forge new lives and business in America. Through detailed portrayals, the author reveals episodes from their lives, the values that guided them, the customs of those days, the feelings and the passions that went on inside those noble houses.
The second part, entitled From the Reality to the Dream, Ventosa plays a literary game as she creates a fictional story based on the biography of her greatuncle, Isidro Ventosa, who died at a young age in New York. Blending historical memory with fiction, she does a reparation of what was a harsh reality and a life indelibly marked by tragedy.
